I would like to know what would be a good car to buy for 8-10k? including fuel economy in the equation with a good booth size

Have a look at the Toyota Corolla 1.5L and the Mazda3/Axela 1.5L - not a powerhouse but enough to get you around town with ease and without using too much fuel. The Corolla with a 1.8L and the Mazda3/Axela with a 2.0L engine is preferable for the long trips but will use slightly more in fuel and you will need to top up your budget to find a low mileage version.
