I'm looking for a small safe car around 10k, and the 2007 mazda demio sounds like a good buy in that range. The dog and lemon guide states that all NZ models come with Electronjc Syability Control, but the AA review says it's only in the sports version (http://www.aa.co.nz/cars/car-reviews/mazda2-2007/). For imports it seems to be even trickier (http://autofile.co.nz/data-esc-compliant-stock/). Is there a definitive list of models or VINs which have information about this? Is there a way I can identify this feature on the physical car or it's usual documentation? Thanks!

You should look at NZ new Mazda 2 models. This feature isn't standard on NZ new models but to the end of 2007 the Mazda 2 Sport sold new in NZ had this safety feature. You will struggle to find a used import with this feature.

Normally an ESC light will display on the instrument cluster when the ignition is switched on - this can be used as an indication but to be sure a diagnostic computer should be connected to the vehicle to see whether it's equipped with ESC.

You will be better off buying a vehicle from a Mazda dealer so that they can confirm if it's fitted or not.
