Hi. I am looking at getting my first car very soon. As ive never bought or owned a car before, I have never had previous insurance. If I bought a car, I would want to be able to sort out the insurance either by phone or internet. I am probably going to buy privately, so this is something I am unsure of. Do I ring and get everything sorted out then, or do I go into an aa centre, set up a profile with my signature and details, and when Im ready to buy do I activate the insurance then??

Firstly, you should phone insurance companies, such as AA Insurance, to get quotes. When you find the vehicle that you are going to purchase then before taking delivery contact your preferred insurance company to arrange immediate cover.

The AA Insurance team is available from 8am - 8pm during the week and weekends from 8am - 6pm. The insurance contract can be arranged telephonically at that time. Please see AA Insurance website for further info.
