Hi there
I am looking to purchase a toyota mr-s and two I have seen both have the engine check light continuously on. My question is whether an AA pre-purchase inspection goes as far as hooking up to a diagnosis computer to understand what the problem is (in one case the vendor said it was a faulty O2 sensor and that lots are driving round with this problem and in the other they don't seem to know). If not, do you have any advice on how I would get this checked.
Thanks

The AA Pre-Purchase inspection will make you aware of problems that are detected during the inspection but it doesn't go as far as diagnosing the fault. You will need to decide if it's worth buying a vehicle that has these problems or get the vehicle to a workshop to have the problem diagnosed. Diagnosis takes time and it could cost you.

The oxygen sensors aren't normally expensive items and you think the vendor would have had it repaired beforehand as it impacts on the sale of the vehicle - unless there is something else wrong with the vehicle.
