Tossing up between a Toyota Corsa 1997 and a Volkswagen Golf 1997. They're both auto, which would be better regarding fuel consumption?

We don't know too much about the Corsa as it an import model not sold new here, but our records show it as a 1.3 litre engine. The Golf is fitted with a larger capacity engine that will use a bit more fuel.

Also, if your decision is one based on out and out economy, the Toyota would offer lower service and maintenance costs in the long term also.

The Golf however may be the nicer vehicle to drive over a broader variety of conditions and is likely to offer improved occupant safety.
