I am currently looking to purchase a Nissan X-Trail 2002 to 2006 model mainly for towing a 800kg boat un braked and or a 1200kg caravan braked. Can you please tell me if a 2lt petrol would do the job or should I consider the 2.5lt model only. Also is the 4 speed auto a better option than the CVT transmission model.

The 2.5 has a higher tow rating than the 2.0 (2,000kg braked for the 2.5 vs 1,350kg for the 2.0 braked), therefore, it would do the job much better.
Our preference for towing would definitely be the 4 speed auto over the CVT.
