Hi
I bought a honda accord 1998 in an auction at Turner's company a months later. It's WOF and License were expired and I bought it "As is, Where is". The car has some mechanical problem and can't be repaired. So no chance to get new WOF. Can I claim on that to refund my money ? (Just heard it's illegal to sell/buy a car without WOF/Lisence).

This is why you pay less at an auction for a vehicle than you would at a car yard. There are risks with buying a vehicle at auction and unfortunately you have learnt this lesson the hard way.

If you buy a vehicle from a registered motor vehicle dealer then the WOF should be no older than one month. This is not enforced when buying privately or from an auction.

The WOF is a safety check and it’s not a mechanical condition report. You should always do your homework before purchasing a vehicle from auction or privately as you are not covered by the Consumer Guarantees act (CGA).

Nobody has a crystal ball to see what will fail but you can reduce the risks by paying a mechanic to inspect the car (AA Pre Purchase Inspection) before the auction begins.

You can put this down to experience as you have no recourse from the auction house.
