Hello,

Our '98 Nissan Primera has done its dash (would cost more to fix than its worth) and we need a new family station wagon. Our budget is $10,000

Our priorities are:
- Economical
- Safe
- Big Boot Space
- Wide enough for 3x narrow carseats or 2x carseats & a passenger.

We are considering a Honda Accord 2.0L Wagon. Are there any common problems or anything we need to look out for with this?

Toyota Avensis was top of our list until I read about the D4 engine issue which has put me off a bit.

We are also considering a Toyota Caldina 1.8L but the boot space might be a bit small for going on holiday.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

The Mazda Atenza 2.0L or 2.3L is a good choice but with your budget you might be looking at a higher mileage version.

The Honda Accord 2.0L or 2.3L is a good choice and should tick all the boxes for you but another vehicle to consider is the Toyota Corolla Fielder fitted with a 1.8L motor - take it for a test drive with the family to see whether it has the grunt you need from the engine.

It is best to avoid the D4 engines and CVT transmissions on older vehicles due to reliability concerns.
