Campervans are expensive to buy wherever you live, but maybe slightly cheaper in the UK - would it cut costs to buy one there and go through the bother of importing to NZ? or just buy from what is available here already? We are thinking of buying in the UK anyway, so wondered if it would be economical overall to just buy the one, and import, rather than buy/sell/buy again here later.
Thanks, hope someone with experience has something useful to offer,

There are hundreds of motorhomes being imported from the UK at present, due to the NZ currency remaining reasonably strong against the pound.
As long as you do your homework and make sure the vehicle you intend to import will meet all NZ standards to be registered here and is structurally sound, there's no reason why you can't import one.
Bear in mind, like any imported vehicle, it would need to meet our current emission standards, so generally speaking, vehicles first registered in the UK from 2007-on will comply, but make sure before you buy.
You can submit this web form to us, and we can offer you some guidance as to your intended purchase will comply with NZ regulations.
