hi,
sorry the year is 2000. So you recommend to go for manual since auto is plagued with transmission issues?

What is the market value for used above car in good condition with that much mileage. If you can give me ball park approx figure (MSRP value).

Also what other models do you suggest better out there?

What is your opinion on 2001 VW Polo GTI (5spd), 130K mileage , hatchback...spare parts, economical, fuel efficiency, running costs, repairs, maintenance, sourcing & ready availability of spare parts. What is market value for such above car in good condition?

Kind Rgds,

Yes, manual is likely to be less risky, but check the clutch.
It's not possible to put a value on any vehicle without inspecting it and knowing the condition, history etc. However, as a guide these cars would probably be roughly in the $5k to $6k range, but could be less or more. A nice, NZ new example with full service history and cambelt done etc, etc could be more - an import with unknown pedigree, run of the mill condition and dubious history would be less.
To be honest, if you're really more concerned about maintenance and reliability, a mainstream Japanese car such as a Mazda Familia or Nissan Pulsar may be a better option in this price range - however I'm getting the impression that you're more fond of German product, which does drive well.

Hi,
yes thanks I get the drift and how to spot the difference between NZ new and dubious import.Yes I have driven Jap imports such as Mazda, Nissan, Corolla prior hence the reason high time for a different drive experience and perspective. Hence been there done with Jap imports & wanted to upgrade to Euro make/model.

On that note can you pls give me some specs on the following :VW GTI Polo, 1.6, 5spd (manual), 130K (mileage) hatchback. Heard they are quite nippy/fizzy to run , but not certain of economical, reliability and dependability. Cost saving, maintenance, spare part availability, repair and running costs.

I've been advised ECU & alternator repair costs for this type of model can be on the high side. Is this true and accurate?

Data available to us would suggest the 1.6 litre Polo GTi is 92kW/152Nm, 0-100 in 8.7 seconds with a claimed fuel economy of 7.2l/100km (but expect higher consumption than that in real world conditions). So quite a nippy little car for the $$ and reasonable fun to drive.
But there are some doubts over reliability with ECUs, throttle bodies and electronics having been known to give trouble.
Ultimately, it depends on what's important to you in a car. In this price range, there will always be some risk.

Hi,
specs of car: Holden Astra 2000, mileage 80k+, 5 spd, hatchbk.1.8cc

can you give me specs such as realiability, fuel efficiency, spare costs, ease of sourcing them, total overall dependability and performance of above vehicle and model.

Thanks,
J

Jpereira

pls give me approx price range for 2000 Holden Astra model as well?

tjhull

You could find all the specs required in quick time, simply by entering into your computor search engine. Also check out trade me for pricing vehicles.

Further to tjhull's comment, the Astra was a model that didn't enjoy a great reputation for reliability. As dependability/reliability is clearly an important factor for you, I still wonder if perhaps a mainstream Japanese car might be preferable in this price range.
