Hi,

I am considering of buying an ex-rental Nissan Sunny 1998 1500cc which has only done 110,000kms. I have had mixed feedback from my friends in regards to buying an ex-rental vehicle.

The Pros I have been given are that ex-rental vehicles are well maintaned and rental companies have to follow strict servicing requirements.

The cons that I have been given are that ex-rental vehicles have had many different drivers and hence they are poorly handled and thrashed to death. So I just wanted some expert advise as to whether it would be a good idea to buy an ex rental vehicle.

Many thanks for your time and consideration.

Regards
Jitendra

Rental vehicles are normally maintained by the company's own mechanics and the level of servicing is kept to a minimum - the manufacturer’s service schedule is not followed to keep costs down. For this reason it is unlikely the vehicle has been well maintained and rather it has been maintained when necessary.

The risk with rental cars is that so many different drivers have used the cars. Not all drivers have good driving habits and yes at times it would have been thrashed.

But as with any 15 year old car there is always going to be a risk of major component failure in the near future and this is possibly why the rental company has decided to sell it.
