I am looking to purchase a Nissan Maxima 250L . . . I've seen a few in the 2009 age bracket . . . is there anything to be wary of with these cars ?? What do you believe the price range is ?

ABayliss

The only slight negative comment we've heard about the Maxima 250L is it's a little under-powered compared with the 350L and having a CVT transmission on such a big car results in a lot of flare and slip under acceleration. If you're a sedate driver, looking for comfort and a soft ride, it should be fine and reliability seems to be OK.
Depending on km's and condition, value should be from mid/high teens to early twenties.

I got an AA Vehicle History Report on this vehicle and it notes under "Assembly" that the Country of Origin = Thailand.

The car is NZ New . . . so does that mean the car is built overseas, imported brand new and registered in NZ ?? I thought there is (or was) and Nissan manufacturers in NZ ??

ABayliss

There have been no cars assembled in New Zealand since 1998. The country of assembly is on record with the Motor Registry Centre, as provided by the manufacturer or their local distributor (in this case, Nissan NZ). Many cars are assembled in countries where labour is less expensive these days and the vehicle can still be NZ New, which means it was sold new in New Zealand, and not imported as a used car at a later date.
The Nissan Maxima may well be assembled in Thailand, as are a lot of vehicles, particularly utes, with a majority of utes from mainstream Japanese manufacturers being assembled in Thailand.

The vehicle has been AA appraised. How does that compare to an AA Vehicle Inspection ?

Basically need to know if I should get an AA Inspection done ?
Does this pick up whether or not the car has been in an accident ?? Had cosmetic surgery (so to speak) ??

ABayliss

An AA Appraisal is a brief mechanical inspection that is done for the dealer. In order to determine whether there is any evidence of damage or structural repair, plus a more thorough comprehensive mechanical and electrical evaluation of the vehicle, it is advisable to have a full AA Pre-Purchase Inspection carried out.
