We're not aware of issues with the Toyota D-4D engine and would recommend a Prado with this engine for towing purposes. Perhaps you're thinking of the older D4 petrol engine, or perhaps you've read about engine failures on vehicles being run on contaminated fuel. One thing to remember is that modern direct injection diesel engines such as this must never use contaminated fuel. This applies to all modern diesel engines, not just Toyota. So no fuel out of farm tanks and preferably only use fuel from a major service station.
Follow the manufacturer's recommendation for service intervals.

Thank you very much. Your reply is reassuring. It doesn't pay to listen to gossip.
