Hi, I am looking at a 2004 Honda edix with 97000 on the odometer. It's been aa checked and certified. The dealer wants 11000$ for it. He's offering me 4000$ for my 1997 Honda Vti sport, its a manual hatchback, 1700cc, which has 80000 on the clock, leather seats and is a NZ car . I'm the second owner. Is this a fair deal?
Also how will the edix compare as far as cost of fuel consumption goes compared to the civic? Many thanks for your advice. : )))

So, time to trade the "fun" car for something more "sensible"??
Firstly, when you say the Edix has been AA Checked and Certified, don't confuse this with, or let the dealer convince you that the car has had an AA Pre-purchase inspection. This sounds more like a car that has been Compliance Certified, which is a legal requirement for all new imports to ensure they meet legislative standards. Perhaps it's Dealer Appraised too, but this is still not a Pre-purchase inspection.
As far as the deal is concerned, it sounds OK - not a bargain, but fair. In reality, if you could be bothered you may get more for your Civic by selling it privately as it's a popular model, NZ New with low k's and owners, so it's quite a desirable little car. However, it can be a hassle selling privately, therefore, it's often the easier option to trade it in.
Fuel consumption will be a little higher on the Edix, which has the Accord engine, but it should not be a significant increase, just what you'd expect with a slightly larger car, offering the practicality you're obviously now looking for.
