I have been offered a 1998 Hyundai Atoz automatic. As the vehicle is no longer manufactured, can you tell me if it is easy to get maintenance support, and how easy it is to get spare parts if needed?

Do you have any knowledge about any problems associated with this model?

What age of car is likely to be affected by Government policy on fuel emissions, I presently drive a 1988 Ford Laser?

Chris.

There are no known issues with the Atoz that we are aware of.

Most fast moving parts from the NZ agent won't be a problem in the short term and I would imagine most parts will be available from Korea for some time to come.

My only concern would be the safety factor. Hyundai have improved their vehicles in leaps and bounds in recent years but their product 10 years ago was not as well built as it is today.

That comment could relate to other manufactures as well, but Hyundai in particular is one manufacturer who have made huge gains in recent years in build quality to ensure their product is competitive and comparable with other manufacturers.

It won't be the most powerful car you have ever driven either.

It all comes down to price and the intended use for the vehicle at the end of the day.

Regarding the question on emissions, I am assuming the vehicle is currently in NZ now and registered.

If this is the case, there are no emission standards or in depth testing currently. There is a visual smoke test from the tail pipe at Warrant of Fitness time which most well tuned cars pass comfortably.
