I have a Toyota Ipsum and want to upgrade to an used Japanese import which can comfortably sit 8 people (4-5 adults & 2-3 children).
I was looking at buying Toyota Estima (late 90's -1999 onwards model).
Can you please advise me if that's the right choice or should I be looking at other models?
If I stick with the Estima, what do I need to look for.
Abby.

The Estima is a good choice provided you get the right model in my view.
The early models had a very unusual engine lay out which made servicing difficult amongst other things. They also have a strange set up where accessories such as the air-conditioning compressor were driven by a shaft connected to the front engine pulley.
The second generation is the one I would go for. This was based on a car platform and runs a front wheel drive set up. The earlier models were rear wheel drive.
You may have to look for a 2000 year model onwards to find the improved mechanical layout.
Hi, I am also looking at a Toyota Estima hybrid at the moment and could you advise if AA inspection would include a health check on the battery? You mentioned about the front wheel drive of the second generation. What is your take on the 2009 4wd of Estima? Should I better avoid it? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
