I am looking at buying a 2005 Mazda2 travelled 30,000kms as my first car. I'd like to know your opinion on its safety, mechanical problems if any, efficiency and cost of maintenance & any other relevant information specific to this car that I should be aware of.
Many thanks for your help.

The Mazda2 is a fine choice as a first car. There certainly isn't any major concerns about reliability on this model. The automatic version may lack a little in performance in comparison to a manual and would also use a little more petrol. All very marginal however.
You could expect fuel consumption of around 6.6 litres per 100km depending on how and where the car is driven. Short / cold runs could see that increase while a long highway type drive may see a decrease.
Safety wise, it is also a good purchase. 2003 European crash test results gave the vehicle a 4-star rating. The vehicle tested was fitted with dual front airbags which will be the same as a NZ new Mazda2.
