Hi, I'm looking at purchasing a Mazda Demio 2010 (ex-lease) which has been newly imported into NZ. It has done just over 50,000km and cost would be $12,450. I believe the model I'm looking at has CVT transmission, which I don't have any experience with. Is there any reason CVT should be avoided?

Generally speaking, the Mazda Demio has been a very reliable car. The other "generilisation" we often make which slightly contradicts what I've just said, is to avoid CVT transmissions.
However, our understanding is that late model CVTs are vastly improved and almost all new Japanese cars now use CVT transmissions.
Therefore, perhaps it's time we stopped being cautious of late model cars with CVT transmissions.
So, in summary (please excuse my ramblings!), a 2010 Mazda Demio that has travelled 50,000km should not pose a high risk.
