Hi,

Im looking for flat deck ute, 4x4, towbar, 2-3lt (as i'll be pulling heavy loads) and i'll be using it on hilly steep farm land to transport tools, hay, dogs etc. I don't mind how it looks, it just need to be able to do the job.

I've got a budget of up to/around $10,000 but I dont really know where to start!

Is diesel better than petrol?
and
What would be the most reliable model and make within the budget I've got? I dont really want to get something really old, but im not sure what my $$ will get me?

Thanks!

If you plan to be towing, diesel is the better option due to the torque, however diesel utes are in such demand that prices remain high due to their desirability.
Hence, finding a good low mileage diesel ute in your price range will be difficult, but not impossible.
The Toyota Hilux is perhaps the most popular with a great reputation. Others to consider would be the Nissan Navara, and perhaps Ford Courier and Holden Rodeo. In this price range, the earlier model Mitsubishi and Mazda engines didn't have such a great reputation.
Try to find a ute with as low a mileage as possible (although, they're all likely to be fairly high at this price).
If you are patient, you will find a good one.
