Hi, we are looking at buying this car http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=571234457 and the reviews of these don't appear to be that great on some websites. Many talk about a timing belt failing and coursing huge amounts of damage to the motor, is this accurate? We will be looking at getting it AA Checked but kind of want to know, is it a vehicle to avoid totally. Many say it's a car just with a Holden badge and not that great being made in Thailand! I have no idea if that is a fair comment or not.

Many thanks for your help in advance,

Craig

This seems quite a low price for a 2005 7 seater done only 68,000km (43,000 miles - ex-UK). Perhaps there's a reason why the price is low. It's fair to say that this model isn't particularly popular and doesn't enjoy the best reputation.
Personally, I'd prefer to have a Japanese type vehicle, but you may find prices are higher.

Thank you for your help. So mechanically they aren't that great and the problems of the timing chain breaking are accurate? I just don't want to buy a vehicle that is likely to have issues.

This engine was prone to breaking cambelts early, they suffered electrical problems and are not particularly well regarded.
