Hi there,

One of my mates is off on his OE and has asked me to sell his Civic for him. He needed it for work until last week and so could not sell it until he left. I've changed the ownership over so my insurance covers it. The only issue is that the rego expires in 2 weeks time. I don't use it but its parked overnight at work ( hence the insurance). Can I sell it after the rego expires ( within a reasonable timeframe)? Or do I need to pay for an additional 3 months- is there a shorter timeframe for rego payments

Cheers

There's nothing stopping you from selling a car with expired rego, however you'd need to be clear with the buyer. If you don't want to pay for licensing the car for a minimal peroiod, you can put the rego on hold. By doing this, there will be no back fee to pay when someone comes to licence the vehicle in future.
