I try to buy a Nissan Pursar CJII 1999. It is from oversease and engin is 1500cc. It is automatic and price offerec is $3800. The last odometer is 118,000km. The car was dealt through Park & Sell on behalf of the owner.
However when I checked history I found that it has inconsistent odometre. On 2009 it was 96,566 km but went down to 96,353. I am very desperate to buy a car so I would like to know how much it is risky to buy this car. I am planing to get aa inspection but I want to know if it is worth to try or I shouldn't even take a consideration. Could you please give me opinion? I also want to know if I buy this car what bad thing will happen.
I am looking forward to your answer.

The Pulsar nameplate has a good reputation for reliability which is why it's a sought after car in the used vehicle market. The speedo anomaly could be due to a typing error from a WOF inspector or possibly the speedometer has been replaced at some stage. The mileage difference is only 213km which isn't a significant amount and I doubt with the small difference in mileage that someone has tampered with it. You should query this with the current owner and also ask if the vehicle was off the road over that period as the vehicle hasn't travelled - hopefully there is a reasonable explanation. An AA Pre Purchase Inspection will help you get an idea of the vehicles condition but a good NZ service history will help in the long run.

You won't be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act when buying a vehicle from a Park and Sell yard - it's like a private sale. There is always a risk when buying a used car, especially one with higher mileage and in this price bracket, and you can expect to have to spend some money for repairs to the car in the near future.
