If you are looking for a 4WD car, and not a SUV, then Subaru will be the answer for you but they were known to be thirsty when it comes to fuel consumption - try stick to the 2.0L or 2.5L non-turbo engines. The Mitsubishi Outlander has a good reputation for reliability and would rank as one of the better AWD SUV options in this price range.

Hi
My searching has focussed mostly on the Outlander, Hyundai Tuscon or Corolla Allex (AWD). However I saw a Suzuki SX4 which seems to tick all the boxes in allowing me to go up the mountains yet better in fuel efficiency. Can you tell me anything about this car and whether it is reliable, safe and a good buy? The one I have seen is a 2008, manual.
Many thanks
