We are looking at purchasing a 1999 Mitsubishi Chariot GDi V6 travelled 120,000 kms. There is a problem where the engine won't idle in 'D' but it's OK in neutral when hot.

Do the electronics give many problems and is the idling problem repairable?

The Nissan Maxima has enjoyed a good reputation for reliability over the years, however any car around 14 years of age is something of a risk.

I would definitely avoid the high kilometre option unless it had a bullet proof service history. The vehicle is at the end of its useful life so anything can happen and repairs on transmissions for example can cost more than the vehicle is worth.

I'm not sure there would be $3,000 difference between the two models regardless of distance travelled also, so make sure you are not paying too much for the one with the lower odometer.

Whatever you decide, do not buy without the vehicle having a new Warrant of Fitness (not more than one month old).

Sight the new WoF before you commit to purchase.
