Hi there, We have a new addition to the family and I think its time we upgrade my wifes very low to the ground Nissan Primera 98 Stationwagon for something a bit higher up for carseat and pram ease of use. She has already hurt her back getting the capsual and baby out already.

Esentially it will be for around town driving but the inlaws are in Hamilton and we do lots of trips back and fourth from Auckland.Budget is 15k - 20k.

We quite like the look of the Mitsubishi Outlander or Nissan Murano. The ones in our price range seem to be the 2006 - 08 model and about the 100 - 120,000km range. Most of the Muranos seem to be 3.5litre but I have seen some 2.5 advertised which is comparible to the Outlander at 2.4. For the same age and milage the Outlander seems to be about 4 or 5 thousand cheaper.

Do you know why the price differance? I cant seem to find any direct comparisons with these cars anywhere eg boot size for putting in a pram.

Will either of these see us through for 10+ years before the next upgrade. (possibly adding baby number 2 in a couple of years)

thanks.

The Nissan Murano is larger than the Outlander and has high levels of specification which make it a dearer vehicle to buy. We are aware of CVT (transmission) problems on the Murano and it might be better if you avoid this option. The Outlander is a great vehicle with a good reputation and also comes in a 7-seater version. Other vehicles to consider are the Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tuscon. You should take the 2.4L Outlander for a test drive, it shouldn't disappoint.
