The Passat is a good choice provided the mileage is low and it has a full service history. Like most European brands they can be costly to maintain and if things do go wrong you will be paying top dollar to have it fixed, so you need to be sure you are prepared for any problems that may arise in the future. Stay away from Singapore imports as they were known to have electrical problems, a NZ new Passat will be a better option. It might be a good idea to get a good mechanical warranty and buy from a registered dealer.
