hi Jack
i am comparing 2007 rx with mileage abt 150k and 2008 outlander vrx abt 80k. ( i know not exactly apple to apple) asking abt 29 k and 25k respectively. I note vrx has 7 seats and 1 yr newer, but consumption of 10.9l /100 has been said to be rather conservative. rx is 1 year older, but the brand probably justify the 4 k difference and 1 year older (?), but would the rx be very expensive to maintain esp the expensive 150k service is now due. consumption is at 8.1l. what comments do you have? and if you were in the market which would u choose and why? appreciate your views, I am considering fr the aspects of value for money and also not too costly ownership, in running and maintenance. I am average 10- 15k km user pa, thanks.

The Lexus RX400h is a 3.3L petrol/hybrid vehicle. It has a lot of technology built into it and with this comes expensive parts and maintenance which will mostly need to be done by the agents, due to the high voltage the hybrid system produce. The mileage is high and you can expect to do some major repairs in the near future as well as a major service which will be a costly exercise.

The Mitsubishi Outlander with the 3.0L petrol will consume more fuel than the Lexus as it doesn't have the benefit of an expensive hybrid system. The mileage is low and maintenance and repairs costs will be less expensive than the RX400h. There is also the option to have it serviced and repaired outside of the Mitsubishi dealer network.

Come time to upgrade, the Outlander will be easier to sell. The Outlander has a good reputation and with the benefit of the low mileage and newer year model it is the obvious choice.
