Be mindful that this is now an old car, so there is the risk of unexpected repairs - particularly if the mileage is getting high. Generally speaking, the criticism of earlier Subarus is that they tend to be quite thirsty on fuel and headgasket problems are not unheard of.
There are always reasons why a particular car might appeal, but as your question relates to fuel and maintenance costs, there are possibly better options in this regard. Perhaps a Toyota Caldina or Mazda 626 might be better options.
