Hi, yes, the seatbelts are a must have. What is high mileage? This particular one is 2002, 167 000km. I am also looking at another which is 2004 85 000km but it is an auction vehicle so not sure if I will be able to get it for our price. It has none of the problems of the cheaper one. We loved the drive of the Golf and the interior, so after this, we dont want to look at the Mazda Axela or Nissan Pulsar again. They may be a safer bet, but they did nothing for us.

I agree 100%, the Golf is a far superior car to drive, but would not entertain one that's done 167,000km. The 85,000km one sounds like a much better proposition, but be mindful that service and maintenance will be higher than a Japanese car.
It sounds like you've found the model that suits your needs - now just down to finding the best example you can within the budget!
