I have been looking at various new cars and have noticed that visibility out of the rear windows of new cars seems to be restricted. Some of the upgraded models get around this by having rear view cameras but on the "standard" ranges one's visibility rearward is not ideal. It has been suggested to me that the reason for this is due to increased safety requirements and the need for stronger rear pillar structure. Does this suggestion have any merit, and do you have any comment on the rear visibility issue?
Thanks
The use of higher strength steels allows for the reduction of the metal thickness and this in turn reduces weight which helps towards better fuel consumption. Making the A, B or C pillars stronger will not necessary mean less driver vision. More than likely the design (visual looks) of the vehicle contributes towards bigger pillars.
