Hi - we are looking at buying a new Honda CRV. It's the first time we've bought new and the window price is $39,900.,
Do we have a chance of haggling them down in price a bit at the Honda dealer on a new car if we are paying cash - or get them to take a trade in on our 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante with mileage of 62,000kms? Any advice to get the best deal gratefully received. Thanks.

Under most circumstances, we'd definitely advise haggling, and on most vehicles you'd be highly likely to negotiate a discounted price. However, Honda's pricing model means that their dealers work to a Price Promise format, hence there is no discount.
As far as trade-ins are concerned, the dealer will trade your Mitsubishi, although the trade-in price may not be as much as you might get selling privately. Having said that, many buyers are prepared to settle for the trade-in price for the convenience factor.
Where trade-ins are concerned, there's nothing stopping you from negotiating that with the dealer, despite the Honda Price Promise.
