Hi, Im looking at buying a larger car for longer driving distances.
Which would be the better buy 2002 Falcon XR6 AU111 Tickford or 2003 Maxima ST 3.5 Both have 140km on clock and are priced the same at $9900.
Which has the better reputation and running costs.
The reason i want a larger car is i spend at least 2 hours a day driving and like the large car feel, maybe a little towing may be invovled from time to time.
Did either model have many problems and are they soild running cars.
Thanks for your time.
Craig
As I'm sure you realise, big six cylinder cars are not terribly popular today due to the high fuel consumption, so if this is your perference, you should be able to drive a hard bargain.
From a reliability perspective, both of these cars were fairly well regarded. Arguably, the Maxima (being Japanese!) enjoys a slightly better reputation for relaibility, with a few electrical gremlins known to exist with the Falcon. From a towing perspective, the Falcon (being rear wheel drive) has the edge.
So it will really come down to your personal preference.
Would it be fair to say about 11L/100km for both. Would they both be ok on 91 octane.
I like both the maxima and the falcon so its a hard one and yes the price has come down a fair bit.
Thanks
That sort of fuel consumption should be achievable, depending on your driving style and urban/rural mix. Nissan recommends a minimum 95 for the Maxima and Ford says the Falcon is "91 safe" but 95 is the preference.
