Hi there. I am a little confused. I am looking at two Ford Escapes. The first one is a 2005 and has done 118,000 km's and is NZ new. Asking price is $10,500.

The second one is a 2001 model and has only done 105,000. It was bought at the auctions 2 years ago and was an import. It is $8,500

Both are the same specs. (3.0 Litre).

My instincts tell me to go with the newer one as there isn't much difference in the km's?? But then that is an extra $2,000.

What would you recommend? We plan on having this car for a long time since we are paying this much (a big investment for us as have usually gone for the under $5k cars).

Thanks

There isn't much difference between the mileages, but the higher mileage car has the benefit of being 4 years newer and NZ new, as pposed to an import. Generally speaking, a NZ new car will have a full service history and has better resale value.
All things considered, assuming condition is comparible, I would opt for the 2005 NZ new example.
