I’ve narrowed down my search for an upgrade to either a Nissan Quashqai or Toyota RAV4 and can’t really decide. I will get a second hand one, about 2009/10 model with less than 50k on the clock.
RAV4 – Reliable, proven its capability, popular for a reason, relatively easy to fix, well designed, won’t fall apart. But more expensive than a Quashqai
Quashqai – Small and compact, cheaper than a RAV4, cheaper than a RAV4 to run (I think), good use of space if you don’t intend to use the back seats.
Any suggestions of which would be the best option to go for?
The RAV4 is a smallish SUV where the Qashqai is more a crossover vehicle, a passenger saloon but higher off the ground. Both are comfortable and reliable and both are a good choice.
I think you need to identify what type of driving your intending to do. I see the RAV 4 better suited for long journeys or gravel roads with a few corners. For city driving with the occasional drive out of town, I would probably recommend the Nissan. The 2lt Qashqai with the CVT transmission is very smooth and economical where the 2.4lt RAV 4 is a bit more spacious but will use a bit more fuel. If you are towing, then the convenyional automatic transmission in the RAV4 will be better suited.
The Qashqai won't fall apart either. So far, it has proven to be a good and reliable model and long may it continue!
