Hello, we are looking at purchasing an ex demo 2012 small family car and have looked at the two above. We have always driven european cars so know nothing about the typical repair costs, reliability or possible resale value of Hyundai vs. Kia. (another option would be to go for a low spec Holden or Toyota - bit boring though). Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Both cars you are considering enjoy good reputations for reliability and should not be expensive to maintain. They are both likely to cost less to service, repair and maintain than European cars you have been used to.
Both brands are now very well accepted and resale value should hold up well. While both Hyundai and Kia share much componentry and have a shared company ownership in Korea, the Hyundai brand is perhaps still considered slightly more "premium" than Kia, although don't let this sway your decision either way as they are both good cars.
