hi, we would like to pass our 2003 Toyota Platz (Echo) 1.5 4 door Sedan on to our daughter at a fair valuation. We have had the car since 2006, as an import, and it has been regularly serviced. It has 82000 kilometres on the clock, and has been housed in a garage since we have owned it. Bodywork has a couple of minor scratches. I would appreciate some idea of what would be fair price for our daughter to pay for it.

It's always difficult to determine a fair price for both parties when selling a vehicle within the family. The Red Book dealer guide listings vary greatly between wholesale and retail pricing as well as a wide variance depending on condition.
A quick look at on-line listings reveals that the average mileage for the Platz is generally much lower than NZ'a overall average, with many Platz having travelled only 30-40,000km. With that in mind and given the odd scratch etc, it's probably fair to place your car in the "Average" condition category. Accordingly, Red book lists a Retail (ie: what a dealer would sell it for on a yard) of $8,750 and a Wholesale (trade in price) of $5,800. Therefore a fail price is perhaps half way between the two figures. (In really good condition, those figures are listed at $10,450 and $7,550).
Ultimately, of course, it comes down to what you feel is a fair price for your daughter to pay and whether there is any money to spend (cambelt, panel/paintwork etc)...
