Hi Jack,

What do you think about these cars? Are they as reliable as the old Corollas and Caldinas?

We drove the IST just recently and were quite impressed.

The one we drove (2008) was a 1.8 litre however, we believe the majority of them for sale in NZ are only fitted with a 1.5 litre engine.

Our only real negative was the high retail price Toyota were asking (around $27K plus on-road-costs).

And the vehicle was not fitted with Electronic Stability Control which we thought was another downside.

At the end of the day it is a used import and you can buy a brand new small car fitted with more safety features for less money.
