Hi just wondering if you can please let me know about the AA inspection gradings. What are the ratings ie. 1 being great and 5 being poor?
Is there a guideline for this, especially regarding recommendation to purchase?
Every vehicle is inspected taking into account its age, odometer reading and the number (and nature) of defects found during the inspection.
It is then placed into one of the four following categories.
- Grade 1- Medium to low risk of unplanned maintenance
- Grade 2-May require unplanned maintenance and repair
- Grade 3- Likely to require unplanned maintenance and repair
- Grade 4- Extreme risk of requiring maintenance and repair
As part of the pre purchase inspection process, the inspector should explain the grading the vehicle has been given.
Remember, any inspection is very much an on-the-day check where obvious faults should be clearly identified.
A vehicle with a grading of level 4 could fly through its inspection on a given day however, based on its age, the mileage, make/model it could still be considered high risk.
The report is designed to provide a fair assessment of a vehicle but to also highlight potential longer term risks.
