I am buying an imported car from a dealer in Auckland. The dealer provided information that says that they are " AA (Automobile Association) Affiliated".
They claim that, "every car that we import is- AA checked, AA appraised + AA complied, serviced and tuned".
I am an AA member of 29 years standing. Can you tell me what these claims above actually mean, and will I be able to receive a copy of any and all the AA reports that are done on the vehicle in question?.
If these reports are not provided by the dealer, will I be able to obtain the reports direct from AA later - after paying the inspection fee, (if necessary).

The AA complied statement refers to the compliance inspection every used import must undergo before it can be registered and driven legally on NZ roads. We are an approved NZTA certifier, so what they are saying is the car has been certified by the NZAA.

The AA appraised statement refers to a mechanical inspection the car has undergone once the car is on the Dealers yard to ensure mechanically it is fit for sale. The compliance is a regulatory inspection only and does not include checking major mechanicals such as the engine/transmission for faults.

I’m not sure what the additional AA checked statement means to be honest.

If the Dealer has nothing to hide they should show you copies of the Appraisal as that is the most important report for you to be satisfied with.

In addition, you can ask for a full AA pre purchase inspection which is more detailed than the appraisal report.

You would be expected to pay for this but it does add additional peace of mind for sure.

Thanks all noted. The car is in a dealers yard in New Lynn. I think a full AA pre-purchase inspection is a good idea. I take delivery next Monday 12th, probably mid afternoon. Can AA do a pre-purchase inspection before then?. Rgds

I bought a car for myself and got the AA inspection does. It really gives you a peace of mind when you are buying used cars.
