I'm going to buy a used import 1998 Toyota Prius. The asking price is $6000.
I'm worried about the hybrid battery which is very expensive and was wondering if an AA pre purchase check includes a report on its condition?

You are looking at a ten year old car and nobody will guarantee the battery life going forward.
An AA pre purchase inspection does not test or comment on the hybrid battery condition.
Remember also, hybrid technology has changed over the last ten years and the Prius of ten years ago is not the same Prius you would buy today.
If you travel on the open road on a regular basis for example, you may find the fuel consumption is not as good as you may be expecting and be no better than a 1.5 litre petrol (non hybrid).
Another important point is Toyota NZ may not be able to offer the same levels of support for a used import hybrid as they would if the car was sold in NZ brand new.
