I was just wondering about the reliability of the Landrover Freelander 2002 model.
I believe the 2002 models onwards have the better BMW TD4 engine and the one I'm looking at has had a viscous coupling and front diff unit replaced recently.
Are these vehicles inclined to be unreliable?

While the Freelander does not generally enjoy a good reputation for reliability, it is generally the earlier models with the K series or KV6 petrol engines which give most trouble.
The TD4 with the BMW M47 diesel engine has a good reputation for reliability, and we are not aware of any major causes of concern.
Like all vehicles, its history and how well it has been serviced and taken care of will be important, as will the distance the vehicle has travelled.
While we would not recommend any of the other models up to the pre-2007 Freelander range, the TD4 is the pick of the bunch.
