I am about to buy either a Honda Accord or a Toyota Premio. I understand that both cars had teething troubles with the CVT transmission in their early years. By which year did these teething troubles get sorted out?

If you can find a Honda Accord with a CVT then definitely walk away. I wasn’t aware this transmission was ever fitted into this model to be honest but that’s the joys of used imports at times, that can be full of surprises.

I’m sure even the Honda workshops around NZ would struggle to provide much technical support in regards to a CVT problem on this vehicle.

A little bit the same with the Toyota Premio. If you can find another vehicle (Toyota) with a more conventional transmission then that would be my preference.

The only time I may be swayed differently is if you were buying from a Toyota Signature dealer where reasonable long term warranties are offered.

Many thanks for your helpful reply. You have confirmed my thoughts. I will make sure I get an AA inspection on whatever car I buy then I can be sure what type of transmission it has.
