I am about to purchase a first car for a teenager. She is keen on the Ford Fiesta and I'm looking at spending $12k - $14k so assume it will be a model around 2005- 2008. Is this a good first car choice in terms of safety, reliability and features please?

Around 2008 was a change-over point for the Fiesta and also a point in which the car went from being very average to very good so I suggest you look at the later model only.

Other options in this price range could be Toyota Yaris/Echo, Hyundai Getz or the Suzuki Swift.
