Hi, my sister is thinking of buying a Toyota Yaris. So far she has seen 2, one was a 2007 and the other a 2009 model - both from dealers. In both cars, while she was reversing into a park on full lock she said the car shuddered in the rear. It only happens when reversing on full lock, is this normal or just because she is on full lock? I know our car's powersteering makes extra noise when on full lock but our car doesn't actually shudder... Can you help please

Firstly let me say I think your sister is making a very good choice of vehicle.

The shudder in reverse however has me beat. Maybe she needs to take a mechanic or a family friend, who has some experience with cars, with her so they can experience the vibration.

It certainly does not sound normal but it is a wee bit weird that she has experienced this same vibration in two different vehicles.

Sorry I can’t help further but would love to know the outcome if she did get somebody to drive the car with her.

I had the same issue for my daily driver. I picked the 1.5 because its much more comfortable on the motorway and on the open road. Usually it is just me driving it to work and back but its come in handy in the weekends where we've been able to load in four adults in the car and travel out to Coatesville, Matakana etc. I drove the 1.3 and it didn't have much pickup and was slow around the many hills that Auckland has. I think you may find the fuel economy is almost the same with the 1.5 plus the 1.5 will hold its value better

The 1.3L engine will be fine for mostly town driving but it will need to make a fair amount of effort to get up steep hills, especially with a load, and therefore it will use more fuel than the 1.5L in this case. The 1.5L motor is the preferred choice.
