Does the seller regardless of who they ( dealer or private) have to provide a current wof and rego before they can sell the vehicle
A Registered Motor Vehicle Trader must sell a motor vehicle with a current registration and a Warrant of Fitness no more than one month old at time of sale.
There is no set time for a registration label but it must be valid for at the time of sale.
A trader is not required to abide by this rule if they dispose of a vehicle through a wholesaler or car wrecker .
A car sold privately should also have a WoF no more than a month old, but it can be sold without a WoF and registration provided the seller declares this information and the buyer acknowledges they are purchasing the vehicle in this condition.
The signatures and retention of copies of this declaration from both parties is also strongly recommended to ensure the vehicle is being sold with full disclosure of this condition.
