Hi, I read in an earlier query/review made here that the Lafesta had transmission issues... it was an earlier model however... how are the 2012 models?

I'm not aware of the 2012 causing major issues, however it would be best to enquire of a transmission specialist in your area to see if they experience a lot of issues surrounding the Lafesta transmission.
As the vehicle is a used Japanese import, there is little information available and some service history could be lacking. So you may find that the transmission has never had a full service and this could present issues in time.
