I'm looking at buying a 2004 Mazda 6 Sport - is there anything on these cars that I need to pay attention to? How do they run generally?

Generally these cars have been reliable and not expensive to own and have a 3-star used car safety rating. However keep in mind that it's 17 years old and has had its most useful and potentially trouble free life.

Unfortunately my budget is pretty thin at the moment, I'm looking for a daily runner (with occasional trips from Dunedin to Invercargill or Christchurch) and although my little Altezza (2001) has performed admirably, it's beginning to show signs of its age. Will the Mazda give me relatively trouble free motoring for, say, 4-5 years? I plan on giving it a test drive this weekend and putting it through the AA Test if I like it.

There really isn't a way of saying if a vehicle of this age could last 4-5 years trouble free but the chances are higher with a vehicle of this type.
