I have narrowed down the cars I was interested in to these three options (the dates are indicative of the age area I am looking not set in concrete). My questions are what are your thoughts on each car and how do they compare for reliability, fuel economy (taking into consideration that the outlander is obviously going to be somewhat thirstier based on it's size), safety and ease of repairs (access to parts and cost). Also are any of them more prone to problems as it ages than the average used car that's looked after well. Are there any known issues apart from recalls? I drive both around town and open road relatively even and as an older driver I drive more conservatively to get the best fuel economy and performance out of the vehicle. Really appreciate your input on these vehicles.

Hi there,
These vehicles are all popular choices, for reliability, and running costs. The Outlander would be the most popular and is available here as both NZ new and a used import. The Wish is a sole import model and so information would be less available for this one. They are all 10-15 years old and so technically they have had their most trouble free life, and you will find things may need servicing or replacing with every wof or service- more so than the previous owners. Used car safety ratings can be found here: https://rightcar.govt.nz/ucsr-safety-ratings
I do recommend having the car you shortlist inspected before purchase. https://www.aa.co.nz/cars/buying-a-car/car-buying-guide/pre-purchase-vehicle-inspections
