Ask an expert
Hello there,
I am new member of AA recently joined.
I would like to get your expert advise on the below. I am planning to buy a used 7 seater car. After searching a bit, I narrowed down on a 2004 Toyota wish for 7000 NZD. Below are the specs,
First registered: 2004
Odometer: 53,000 km
Engine: 1998cc
Transmission: Automatic
Seats: 7
Fuel Type: Petrol
Also it comes with the below,
Comes with:
Comprehensive Toyota Certification Centre check
1 year warranty
1 year Roadside Assist
1 year WOF check
My Questions on this vehicle are as below,
1. Is there any problems I should be aware of for a 2004 Toyota wish model?
2. If I have to replace any parts due to wear and tear, is the parts of this model still available in 2020, if available , is it compartively very expensive or can get on resonable price.
3. I am planning to do a prepurchase AA inspection also. Apart from that do i need to ask the dealer any specific question before deciding on the purchase.
4. Is there any strong reason to choose the latest models of Toyota wish like 2011 rather than a 2004 model?
5. Is 2004 Toyota wish worth 7000 NZD and is it a good purchase? or should i go for latest model
6. My friends advised not to go for 2004 models since its hard to find spare parts and advised me to go always for latest models. is it valid and true?
Any other pointers in deciding wheter to buy this 2004 toyota wish is most appreciated.
Thanks and regards

Hi there,
We always recommend buying the newest safest vehicle that your budget allows.
The Wish is a used Japanese import and so information is limited, but it is a popular choice, with a high potential for used parts still available. Using Trademe as an example, the price would seem in line with vehicles of similar km's. This vehicle looks to have a 4 star UCSR safety rating, which is pretty good. We recommend having an inspection carried out before purchase to make sure there are no surprises after purchase: https://www.aa.co.nz/cars/buying-a-car/car-buying-guide/pre-purchase-vehicle-inspections/
