Hi, We currently have a 2006 Kia Magentis sedan, 2.7 litre for towing our caravan which weighs 1450 kg. I'd like to change to a rear drive or 4WD, and have been recommended Subaru Outback or Legacy, but note online concerns about the auto transmission and fuel economy.
Our options are open in the rather bewildering array of alternatives, and would appreciate your advice. We'll be traveling long distances, so comfort is important.
Thanks, Bill

Hi there,
Correct, Subaru are not terribly fuel efficient even though they are great vehicles, their tow limit is braked 1500kg so you would be at the upper limit.
For example of something good, a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander 4WD 2.4ltr petrol tows 1,600kg and the 2.0ltr diesel tows 2,000kg. The Toyota Camry is another popular choice, but also doesn't have a very high tow rating (1,200kg). I'm not sure there are many rear wheel drives left that would fit the description other than a Holden Commodore.

That's great, thanks. Why 2013 Outlander specifically?

Hi there,
No reason, you didn't mention year of car you are looking at or budget so I just picked something in the middle between your old car and new. :-)

Excellent and thanks.
